A beauty-tech site that tells you when to skip it
NovoltGear exists because most writing about beauty devices is written to sell the device. We wanted somewhere that starts from the opposite question.
There is more beauty hardware on the market than at any point in history. LED masks, microcurrent wands, radio frequency units, IPL devices, ionising dryers. Every one of them arrives with a promise, and most of them end up in a drawer by month three.
The reason is rarely that the technology is fake. It is usually that nobody told the buyer what the device actually does, how long it takes to see anything, and how often they would have to use it to get there. That information is almost never on the box.
What we do
We write guides to beauty devices, tools and personal care. Each one is built around three questions:
- What is this designed to do? Based on published specifications and, where it exists, published research.
- Who is it actually for? Including the person who should not buy it.
- What is the honest tradeoff? The cost, the time commitment, and the thing you give up.
What we do not do
We do not run a testing lab, and we are not going to pretend we do. You will not find invented star ratings, made-up percentages, or claims that we spent eight weeks with a device we have never held. Where a claim comes from a manufacturer or from published research, we attribute it. Where it is our judgement, we label it as judgement.
This also means we sometimes say a popular product is not worth the money. That is the point.
Who writes it
NovoltGear is written and edited by Nora Whitfield, with contributions from freelance beauty and grooming writers. Every article carries a byline and a published date, and when we make a substantive correction we note the update date on the piece.
If you spot something that is wrong, outdated, or unfair to a brand, tell us. We would rather fix it than defend it.
How the site makes money
NovoltGear is reader-supported. Some of the links to products are affiliate links: if you click one and buy something, the brand may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it never changes what we recommend or how we rank things.
We do not accept payment to include a product, and we do not publish sponsored reviews. Every commercial link on the site is labelled, and our affiliate disclosure explains exactly how the arrangement works, including what is true right now while our applications are pending.
What we cover
- Devices & Tools — LED masks, microcurrent, rollers and the tools worth owning.
- Skincare — Actives, moisturisers and SPF that pair with your devices.
- Makeup — Base, colour and the tools that make them work.
- Hair & Body — Styling tools, scalp care, body and fragrance.
Not medical advice
Nothing on this site is medical advice. Beauty devices and skincare products are not treatments for medical conditions. If you have persistent acne, a pigmentation disorder, hair loss, or any skin concern that is not improving, see a dermatologist or doctor rather than buying another device.
